Commissioned by local property owner, Carlos Mouta, this mural features a local crossing guard named Ms. Niki. A beacon in the community, known and loved by all who cross her path, she is a vibrant and genuine soul. Both lover and protector, she is a true unsung hero of her neighborhood.

A passion project from the start, Rice first envisioned this mural nearly two years prior but decided to wait until the right wall presented itself – one that appropriately honored Ms. Niki and her more than 30 years of service to the local community. Eventually, a hometown property owner who understood his vision commissioned Rice and granted him full creative freedom.

Patience paid off as the wall turned out to be located on the same corner where Ms. Niki stands guard every day – rain or shine – helping local children cross a notoriously dangerous intersection as they travel to and from school.
